Jung and his wife, Emily Van De Ven, were on a volunteer trip in Peru, far from their life in Virginia, when Jung was in a terrible accident on his motorcycle, according to NBC4 Washington.
Van De Ven started a GoFundMe page to pay for Jung's "astronomical" medical bills, while he remains in his vegetative state, she said.
"The doctors have not approved Ben for transfer back to the US because it is too dangerous. I am paying lawyers in Peru and in the US. The stress and pressure of being at the hospital and dealing with life in a third world country are now augmented exponentially by financial stress."
Van De Ven said she was forced to empty their accounts, while their house goes into foreclosure, and she said if she does not continue to pay, Jung will die.
She even had to sell the couple's wedding rings, she wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Even with health insurance, Van De Ven has had to pay over $250,000 out of pocket for medical expenses, NBC4 Washington reported.
Despite being back in the U.S. away from Jung, Van De Ven uses the GoFundMe page to raise money for the man she has loved for over 20 years.
The page raised $30,130 of her $200,000 goal as of August 17.
